Taste the world | Hong Kong

  • Lekkerste drankje: versgeperst sap.
  • Vieste eten: soyapap.

  • Nieuwe ontdekking: roti canai.

Taste the World (21) – Recap Asia

At the end of our ‘Taste the World-journey’ we still had a little bit of time for a flash visit to Asia: Hong Kong, Singapore and Pangkor Laut Island, Malaysia. A short recap:

  • Singapore wins the ‘battle of the cities’ by far. Hong Kong is more chaotic wich is less ‘us’ ;-) Besides that there were these big grey rainclouds hanging above the city wich make you feel like you’re in a weird bubble. And yes occasionally it pours as well.

  • Earlier I confessed something about steak and fries, but remarkable enough I really don’t mind eating rice and noodles when in Asia. Even if there’s something western on the menu. It just doesn’t seem logical to eat potatoes and a lot of meat here.
  • Most disgusting drink: milktea. Yuk… ‘Is it too strong?’ the foodietour guide askes me. Well no, it’s just that I’m drinking fatty cream with a drop of bitter tea in it, iiiieuw… I didn’t like soymilk as well by the way… tastes weird…
  • Best drink: fresh fruit juice. On Pangkor Laut they’ve discovered the juicer! You can pick your own fruit at breakfast and someone prepares your juice on the spot. Same thing in Singapore, here we also had some very nice juices. I think I need a juicer ;-)

Taste-the-World-noodles

  • Most disgusting food: soypudding. Tastes like nothing really, so they put a lot of sugar and sugar syrup in it, brrr… too sweet! You can also put ginger syrup in it, but I really don’t like ginger.
  • Best food: roasted duck, flavoured rice (like chicken rice and nasi goring) and fried noodles / rice. I really don’t understand why we (or should I say: ‘I’ ;-) only cook rice and noodles, when I can turn them into a real treat instead? And duck is just awesome. Period.
  • New discovery: roti canai. The fillings are way too spicy for me, but the little pancake itself is so yummy! Especially when it’s outside is crunchy and the inside still a bit soft, mmm…

The last week and a half were over before we even realised it and now our worldjourney is really, really over… We can hardly believe it, but we’re in the plane that brings us back home.
