Vandaag zetten we onze tanden in… focus food!

Ahaaa…vocado!

Avocado is zo’n focusbooster.

Brainfood: focus food

My foodexperiences feed your brain. They encourage you to think, become aware of to behave differently. But… you can also feed your brain literally! By consciously choosing what you eat, you keep your brain functions healthy and optimize your performances. In a series of articles I take you on a journey through our brains. And we take a closer look at foods that contribute to our brain functions. Today: focus food!

Ahaaa … vocado!

Before, I wrote about why it’s important to feed your brain and what brainfood does for you in general. In summary: by eating ‘brainfood’ with the right nutrients, you help your brain to develop itself. To restore or renewe cells. This way your brain functions like focus and concentration improve. Avocado is a real focus booster. It’s your big fat fruit friend full of good (monosaturated) fats. Fat? Yes, fat. Your brain is composed of about 60 percent fat, so they have a lot in common. Avocados are good for your brain maintenance and they help your brain develop. They ensure your blood supply stays stable and help you concentrate.

Energy for concentration

Another food that helps you focus is oatmeal. A lot of you have this for breakfast and your brain is pretty content with that. Whole grains – in oatmeal, but also in whole grain bread or rice – are your fuel. The slow carbohydrates give your energy for attention and concentration. And keep you mentally alert throughout the day. They are quite slow, these guys, so it takes a while before they get going. If you need energy quickly, put some fruit in your oatmeal. Their fruit sugars and quick carbohydrates will give you an instant boost. When they have been worked out, the complex carbohydrates in the oats are warmed up and ready to get you through the day!
